Chatsworth House ~ Family home of the 12th Duke and Duchess of Devonshire is a wonderful stately home with amazing gardens, estate and farm – and the location for Pemberley, Mr Darcy’s home, in the recent filming of Working Title’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice.
Haddon Hall ~ Established in 1087, now the home of the Manners family this stunning house and its gardens make a superb day out. Haddon Hall was recently used as Thornfield Manor, home to Mr Rochester, in the BBC’s adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre.
Carsington Water ~ A 7.8 billion gallon reservoir that boasts a visitor centre, award winning exhibition, book and gift shop, café/restaurants. There are miles of footpaths, cycle hire and water sports.
Bakewell ~ The nearby historic market town with its famous Bakewell pudding shop, quaint streets, cafes and bars, markets and cattle market, and the beautiful river Wye.
Also nearby … Matlock and Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham, the National Trust’s Market House in Winster, Ashbourne, Buxton, Hardwick Hall, the Well dressing villages, Eyam the plague village, Peak Rail, Cauldwell’s Mill, Crich Tramway Village, Bolsover Castle and many more fascinating attractions.
