Next up in the great Peak District calendar is the May Day weekend, there’s so much happening locally to Blakelow, including:

Saturday 2nd

Give a Little Love by Alan Stockitt – 19:30 – Hassop Station, nr Bakewell – Tickets
This performance by Talking Stock is raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

Saturday 2nd to  Monday 4th

The Great British Food Festival! – 10:00 to 17:00 – Hardwick Hall, Chesterfield – Tickets
This lovely National Trust property will host 80 top local and artisan producers, serving hot food, with a dash of real ale and wine bars, kids cookery lessons and lots of children’s activities, top chef demos from the likes of Great British Bake Off finalists Howard Middleton, Luis Troyano and Master Chefs Luke Owen!

Rocks & Rails Weekend – 10:00 to 18:00 – Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, Wirksworth – Tickets
In conjunction with the Steeple Grange Light Railway, which is based in the nearby quarries, the EVR celebrate the importance of the stone industry to Wirksworth.

Peak Fairs event with hundreds of “unique and individual” crafts and gifts for sale

Bakewell Showground Spectacular – 10:00 to 17:00 – Showground, Bakewell – Tickets
Fun family day out promising funfair, food and bar, live music, entertainment and much more!

Sunday 3rd

Carsington Water

Carsington Water

Birdwatching for Beginners – 10:00 to 12:00 – Carstington Water, Ashbourne – Free (booking advised)
Two hour guided walk designed to help those new to birdwatching, take your own binoculars and appropriate attire.

Arkwright Spinsters – 11:00 to 16:00 – Cromford Mills – Free admission
The spinsters will be demonstrating spinning and other crafts. Bring your own spinning wheel and learn to spin.

Sunday 3rd to Monday 4th

Leawood Pumphouse Operating Day – 12:00 to 17:00 – Leawood, Cromford – Free admission (donations welcome!)
Leawood Pump is situated on the Cromford Canal, a short walk from High Peak Junction, experience the power of this great steam engine as it pumps 4 tons of water into the canal with each piston stroke!

Monday 4th

May Market – 10:00 to 16:00 – Village Hall – Free admission
Traditional village May day market … it’s a beautiful village to wander too.
