Starry starry nights

The Orion constellation

The Orion constellation

Did you know that the Peak District is home to several Dark Sky places? We get some gorgeous night skies here at Blakelow, but there are now 3 official dark sky sites at national park car parks, they’re:

  • Surprise View, off the A6187 near Hathersage
  • Parsley Hay, off the A515 near Hartington (nearest postcode SK17 0DG)
  • Minninglow, off the A515 at Pikehall (nearest postcode DE4 2PN)

These are all Orion Class sites where the seven main stars in the winter constellation Orion are visible to the naked eye. Typically, this means away from, or shielded from, bright lights such as street lights, security lights or approaching car lights.
